I started painting and drawing in high school and won a painting award.  I wish I saved those works.  My artistic life was put on hold for a few years while I got through the University of New Mexico.  My need to create could not be suppressed.  After I got through business school, I went back to UNM College of Fine Arts and received a Bachelors of Arts in Fine Arts degree.  It was one of the happiest experiences of my life. I learned a lot from the instructors and my fellow students.  And I am eternally grateful to all of them.

What I like about acrylics is its immediacy.  It dries so quickly in our dry climate, there is no time to second guess a paint stroke.  Too much overthinking can take away the raw emotion of a painting.  I am hoping to make some mono prints off a glass,  where the images are similar but  I would go back in the print and make each one a little different in color and lines.

My Inspiration

I grew up exploring  along the canals and cotton woods of the rio grande valley.  It still has its unique life and spirit. The colors are amazing.  I also studied the wildlife I saw growing up.  Some artists that inspire me today are Dali, Frida Kahlo, Joan Miro, and De Chirico .  These artists tapped into a surreal and dream world I find exciting.
